Jake here. We've been preoccupied with our new neighbors as of late and haven't been able to sneak onto HumanKari's laptop. Noisy neighbor, and messy they are; HumanKari calls them "day-goos"? At any rate we are contemplating on whether we should let them in on this journal.

Hello, 'tis Charlie. Like Jake said I'm not fond of this screenie machine. I guess I'm an old fashioned kind of gerbil.

Last night HumanKari had us in our run around pen when I heard the scariest sound. Like a *murraowww* noise. I ran and hid for the rest of the night.

Jake says he was reading old entries from the others on here, and says it the cat Molly, better known by her nickname Meowie.

There was a cat at our birth home. It stood and stared at us all day and at night ran around and caught wild mice. *shudders*

I got really sick a few weeks ago. First I got a funny feeling in my ears. I tried to scratch it away, but it just made me bleed. The feeling made my all dizzy and it was hard to stand up tall without getting off balance. I started to feel better, and then my nose got stuffy and it was hard to breathe. Human Kari put the fruity stuff in my water that makes me feel better. I drank lots of it and I got less dizzy and could breathe again. But now I can't hear anything. I think I scratched my hearing away! *sniffles*

My nose was all itchy so I kept scratching it and I made it bleed and get sore. :( HumanKari took me out and wiped my nose with a funny stick thingie with a wet cotton puff on the end. She also cleaned out my house and now I don't feel itchy anymore!

I need to investigate that other glass house I saw. I haven't heard the sounds of anyone new talking.

I had gathered so much paper tube bits I was able to build myself two nests. One big one for at night and a smaller one as a daybed. And then HumanKari had to clean my house and now I am back to one measly bed. Phooey!

Why doesn't Meowie mollymarie99 update anymore? I have nothing to taunt while online anymore.

parental consent??

I finally get to post on here again! I kept getting a parental consent thingie that had to be done before I could update again. But I don't have a parent! I had to make Human Kari do it as my parent.

I figured out how to go up a vertical tunnel the other day. Human Kari made me a cool tunnel set up to play with. There's a plastic tunnel (that I learned the human's don't like me to chew on like the cardboard tubes) that came down into my tank. I climbed up and was on top of my tank lid. Weee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was a really really long cardboard tunnel the was propped on top. I ran through, and came out on top of Human Kari's bed! It was so much fun. I ran back and forth over and over. I was sad when Human Kari had to put me back and take out the plastic tunnel.

I hope she does it again!!!

After checking the pups,
Sherlock the dad
Had just settled down
For a well-deserved nap.

When somewhere outside
There came such a sound,
All the gerbils were startled
From their nests, with a bound.

They peeked through the glass
With their fur all mussed,
To see what had made
Such a noisy fuss.

With ears all perked
And whiskers all trembling,
They waited to see
What that noise was portending.

To their listening ears
Came a merry voice,
The sound of which
Would make anyone rejoice.

"On Dasher, on Dancer,
On Prancer, on Vixen!
On Comet, on Cupid,
On Donner, on Blitzen!

To the top of the roof,
To the top of the wall,
Now dash away, dash away,
Dash away all!"

And then the next instant,
They heard from the roof
The unmistakable sound
Of reindeer hooves.

The pups were frightened
And started to thump,
When down the chimney
St. Nick came with a “Whuump!”

The startled gerbils
Froze all in place
And stared at this fellow
With the rosy face.

His eyes how they twinkled,
His dimples how merry,
His cheeks were like roses,
His nose like a cherry.

His beard was as white
As an agouti's belly;
His stomach shook
Like a bowl full of jelly.

His voice was merry,
Yet soothing to hear,
And the gerbils relaxed,
Knowing they need not fear.

With a wink and a nod,
He turned to his bag,
Filling all the stockings
So full that they sagged.

The gerbils watching
With very bright eyes
Wondered if St. Nick
Cared for “people” their size.

Anxiously they watched
The presents appear.
Would there be something
For them this year?

Would they be remembered
With love and joy?
Or be forgotten
Like last year's old toys?

With each present
Their hopes did dwindle;
Their eyes grew sad
And lost their twinkle.

Their whiskers and tails
Dropped in despair;
It seemed that for them
St. Nick did not care.

When all the stockings
Were filled to the brim,
St. Nicolas turned
And gave them a grin.

To the gerbil tanks
He came with a bound,
And opened his bag
With a chuckling sound.

The biggest bag
Of pumpkin seeds ever;
A spray of millet seeds
That seemed to go on forever!

Wood toys, tubes,
And wheels galore,
He piled all these things
By the tanks on the floor.

The gerbils all jumped
And ran with joy.
He'd remembered them
And brought them toys!

With a wink at Sherlock
And a nod of his head,
He vanished up the chimney,
A blur in red.

They heard him exclaim
Out into the night,
"Merry Christmas to all

They gazed at their presents
Through the tank glass,
With sudden frustration

The humans were all
Still asleep it seemed,
How were they going

mollymarie99 jumped on top of my tank three times today while I was trying to sleep. THREE TIMES!! Isn't that just a little excessive? You'd think she'd learn after the first try that the Human Kari will kick her out the room when she does that.

But really, that whole jumping on my tank is getting old. Doesn't she have anything better to do, like play with useless pieces of string or attack The Humans feet when they're not paying attention?

Human Kari let Meowie (mollymarie99) in my room when she wasn't paying attention, and Meowie jumped up on top of my tank! I wonder if that was her silly little "evil plan" being thoughtlessly put into affect? Because sure she can jump on top of my tank, but can she open the locks on the lid. So I babysat the silly thing as she looked down at me until Human Kari came back and then I went back to sleep.
